Chris Hedges is a legend in the alt-news business. I also like his writing because he addresses several topics I also find extremely important i.e. "Let's Stop Pretending America is a Functioning Democracy," permanent war, white nationalism, and incorporates history into many of his articles. He's multi-disciplinary and that's a very useful skill in putting together the pieces of the puzzle leading to today's events.
I applaud Vanessa Beeley's work. I particularly appreciate her 2022.08.23 article "Journalists who challenge NATO narratives are now 'information terrorists' - We will have to answer to the 'law' as 'war criminals.'" As terrible as she makes it look, the realities are far worse as I well know from even very recent experiences here in South Asia.
BAR is the champion of minority advocacy in the USA and world. I worked for the Black press in the US (1988-1992) and could only envy the editorial freedom BAR enjoys. As a socialist, I profoundly appreciate their willingness to expose the ultimate hypocrisies of western capitalism, e.g. "Ghost Stories of Capitalism: Mental Health is a Class Issue." Like Danny, I worked in social service capacities for years, and have particular empathy with the motherland of Afrika and her diverse people.
Cynthia Chung combines hard-hitting facts with editorial insights that illuminate the illusory nature of the US "information war" against China. While China is busy working on building things, alleviating poverty and addressing climate issues, not only in China but along the Silk Roads and beyond, the US "darkly" propagates outrageous lies and absurd exaggerations. Cynthia Chung gets into the details and illuminates them brilliantly.
I've lived on all five continents since 1963 and worked as an alt-news reporter/journalist off and on since 1988, and can confidently report Aaron Mate is one of the best investigative journalists in the world. His dogged pursuit of the truths involved in Western state-backed deceit in the US staged Douma chlorine gas hoax, and Ghouta attack in Syria has been peerless. He works on the ground in conflict zones, and in the hallways of power in the US. Aaron Mate is extraordinary.
Caitlin Johnstone is one of the top alt-news editorial writers. Her brilliant meta-cognitive summaries, insightful sarcasm, frank honesty, courage and occasional humor make her articles hugely uplifting in the current toxic international political arena.
